If a firefighter's HAZMAT suit has come into contact with a hazardous chemical during the exercise, He or she will have to have their suit decontaminated. This is done by spraying the suit with water and brushing the contaminated area of the suit. The people decontaminating are also suited up in hazmat suits, often not as protective a suit as what the responder is wearing, but they too still must be suited to protect them from the hazardous chemicals that could be on the responders suit.
